Sophia Bologna, PLPC
(she/they)

Hi, I’m Sophia (she/they). I am a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) providing counseling services solely via Telehealth across Louisiana. I am a Baton Rouge native who found a second home in New Orleans while pursuing my education and clinical training. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Social Work from LSU (Geaux Tigers) and my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Loyola University New Orleans. I completed my internship at the Family Justice Center, working with complex trauma and survivors of SA and DV/IPV.

Additionally, I have presented at professional conferences and published research on chronic illness, chronic pain, and human sexuality topics, and their correlations with mental health. As someone who lives with a dynamic disability, I bring both personal understanding and professional training to my work with clients. Outside the therapy room, I enjoy attending music festivals and concerts, cooking traditional Italian recipes, spending time with my pets, and building tiny homes.

I approach counseling from a trauma-informed, attachment-based, and person-centered perspective. I believe healing occurs through safety, connection, self-understanding, and authentic relationships. I view emotions as meaningful sources of information rather than problems to eliminate. Together, we will explore emotions with curiosity and compassion, recognizing that ALL emotions serve important functions and may communicate underlying needs, experiences, or attachment concerns. Through parts work, we may explore the different aspects of self that have developed to protect, adapt, or carry pain throughout your life’s experiences.

Through a systems lens, we may also examine how family dynamics, relationships, culture, identity, disability, and broader societal systems impact your experiences and mental health. I strive to create a warm, affirming space where clients can deepen self-understanding, strengthen their relationship with themselves and others, and move toward meaningful change that aligns with their values and goals. Authenticity and the freedom to be yourself in the therapeutic space are fundamental to my approach.

I work with clients 18 years of age or older from diverse backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent individuals. I provide both individual and relationship counseling.

My primary areas of focus include complex trauma (physical, sexual, emotional, relational, etc.) & PTSD, chronic illness and/or pain, human sexuality (including kink-affirming care), grief and loss, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, PMDD, and addiction.
