Kayla Mckenzie Chustz-Duplessis, PLPC

(she/her)
About Me
Hi, I’m Mckenzie (she/her). I am a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) providing counseling services in-person in Baton Rouge and via Telehealth across Louisiana. I am a Baton Rouge native who loves learning from others, and in my spare time I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, and crafting.
My work as a counselor is rooted in the belief that each person has the capacity for growth, agency, and choice, even when circumstances feel overwhelming. While we cannot always control what happens to us, we can choose how we respond, and that choice is powerful. I am passionate about helping clients clarify their values and build lives that feel authentic and intentional rather than reactive. I approach therapy as a collaborative process built on trust, curiosity, and respect. You are the expert on your own life; my role is to walk alongside you as you navigate challenges while strengthening your sense of purpose and autonomy.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Louisiana State University, and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I am a provisional licensed professional counselor (PLPC # 10705) through the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners. I remain committed to ongoing professional development, particularly in evidence-based practices that empower clients to live with greater intention and authenticity.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative and person-centered – I strive to meet you where you are, embracing your unique identity and lived experiences with empathy and respect. My goal is to create a safe, affirming environment where you feel both deeply supported and gently challenged.
I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and existential frameworks. Together, we may explore questions of identity, meaning, purpose, values, and freedom while also building practical skills to navigate daily stressors and relationships more effectively.
Specialties
I work with adults and geriatric clients (18+) from diverse backgrounds. I am committed to supporting individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community and others whose voices have too often been marginalized or unheard.
I support clients navigating life transitions and identity shifts, anxiety and chronic worry, depression and feelings of emptiness, relationship challenges, burnout and compassion fatigue, grief and loss, and neurodivergence. I also work with individuals living with chronic mental health conditions—including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia—in collaboration with psychiatric providers to promote stability and long-term wellness.
Additionally, I am passionate about supporting caregivers who are navigating the emotional, physical, and relational demands of caring for a loved one living with dementia or other conditions with complex support needs.
Insurances: Aetna commercial; Verity HealthNet/ LSU First; Louisiana Healthcare Connections and Aetna Better Health Medicaid.
