Heather Poirrier, LCSW-BACS

(she/her/they/them)
About Me
Hi! I’m Heather, a non-binary millennial. My pronouns are she/they. I am a proud taurus and therefore am all about living a life of ultimate coziness. In my personal life, I enjoy a constantly rotating array of hobbies. I love creative activities such as painting, digital art, hand embroidery, and dancing. Recent fixations include my magnetic fidget toy, beaded embroidery, and eating the best desserts in Baton Rouge. People I look up to: anyone over 5’7” :D.
As for my professional life, I completed my bachelors in social work at Northwestern State University and my masters in social work at Louisiana State University in 2018. I have experience in inpatient settings, forensic social work, and working in community health. While I have experience working with adults with diverse mental health diagnoses, my niche encompasses Autism, ADHD, LGBTQ2+ issues, and complex trauma. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor (BACS).
My approach
My approach to therapy is collaborative and person-centered. I see my role as walking alongside you as you explore your experiences, build insight, and develop tools that support your well-being. Because relationships with helping professionals can carry inherent power dynamics, I intentionally move away from a paternalistic model of care and instead focus on supporting your autonomy. Therapy is a space where you can explore what matters most to you and define what a meaningful life looks like on your own terms.
In my work, I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as somatic and mindfulness-based approaches. These frameworks help us explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, and the body while building skills for navigating difficult experiences with greater flexibility and self-compassion. Together, we work toward practical strategies that align with your values and support lasting change. I provide Telehealth therapy for residents across Louisiana and offer in-person sessions in Baton Rouge.
Specialties
I specialize in supporting adults who are Autistic, ADHD, LGBTQ+, or experiencing complex trauma or CPTSD. In therapy, we work together to better understand your unique needs, strengths, and goals so you can build a life that feels sustainable and authentic. This may include developing strategies to support executive functioning, prevent or recover from burnout, and create accommodations that help you thrive in environments that may not always be neurodivergent-affirming. I also support clients exploring gender identity or sexual orientation, navigating gender-affirming care, and accessing required letters for medical treatment. For those healing from trauma, therapy may focus on processing past experiences, reducing hypervigilance, and learning tools to manage triggers while reconnecting with the body.
While these are my primary specialties, clients often come to therapy for many other reasons as well. I frequently work with people navigating relationship and communication challenges, parenting neurodivergent children, managing anxiety or depression, and healing from religious trauma. Whether your concerns are directly related to Autism, ADHD, or LGBTQ+ identity or not, therapy can be a space to explore what matters most to you. My goal is to help you build insight, reduce shame, and develop practical tools that support your well-being. Together, we can identify meaningful changes that help you move toward the life you want.
